The International Trenchless Association was established in September 1986 by a British private limited company. Its purpose is to “promote the application and practice of trenchless technology for the public interest” and “to conduct research in the above-mentioned science and practice for the benefit of the public. Promote education, training, and publish similar beneficial results.” In the years after its establishment, ISTT has established common contacts with regional non-corporate organizations around the world to advance these goals on a global scale.

ISTT has 28 affiliated associations. All record members belonging to the association are members of ISTT. In addition to members of member associations, ISTT has a limited number of members. They live in areas where there is no withdrawal mechanism for member associations.
